All the known karst springs have been adapted over the centuries, and used to draw water for drinking, to water the animals and also wash clothes.

Only a few fountains fully retain the characteristics of their last phase of use, some have completely disappeared, and others have been recently reconstructed respecting the shape and the original materials.
