It was originally serving the mill district, its shape and size are still the original ones. The once drinking water was flowing from the Pozzolo channel, which arrived at the mouth of the valley and then turned sharply towards the mills, running along the wall where the holes of the wheels can still be seen today; through a narrow tunnel it then flowed into the fountain’s basin.
