In the valley of Pozzolo, where it is easy to grow crops but there is very little water, in the past wells have been dug in the areas where water was collecting underground in order to provide for the needs of agriculture and mainly to water farm animals. These are phreatic wells, that were excavated to cross an aquifer in the ground to allow the water to pour on the bottom of the well and to be taken for various uses. Dug by hand in the past centuries, and positioned on the edges of the flat valley, some can be seen by simply walking through the old streets, so that one can still appreciate their clever construction elements and understand their characteristics and usages.
